The Story of Velpont

Video Duration: 5 min, 38 sec

Road-stream crossings sit at the intersection of two essential systems: transportation and the natural waterways beneath it. Across North America, aging and undersized culverts can restrict stream flow, create barriers to aquatic organism passage, and leave roads more vulnerable during high-water events. Open-bottom bridge systems offer a different approach: spanning the channel while preserving the natural streambed, bankfull width, sediment movement, and habitat connectivity below. Velpont was developed around that idea: let streams be streams.

Hear from conservation experts about the challenges that inspired Velpont’s development, from aging infrastructure and flood resilience to reconnecting historic fish habitat, and how a shared vision evolved into a new approach to road-stream crossings. See why Velpont is designed not simply to carry traffic over water, but to help communities build crossings that work for travelers above and below.
